Calls on Ogun Speaker to withdraw Ogun state 2016 Land grabbing law.

The Centre for Democracy and Socio-Economic Rights, (CEDESER) has urged the Ogun State governor Prince Dapo Abiodun and Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Yomi Oladimeji to summon the required courage and take a decisive action against the activities of a notorious land grabber, Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye and his criminal gangs who has been terrorising, attacking and destroying people’s properties, farm and means of livelihood in Ewekoro Local government Area of the state. In a statement issued by the group’s President, Comrade Popoola Ajayi stated that “ the people of Onigbedu, Elere, Ajipatutu, Akorogbo and environ have been living in palpable fears and trepidation due to the activities of a notorious land grabber, Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye and his well armed criminal gang who has been terrorising, attacking, destroying their properties, farms, crops and other means of livelihood with bulldozer and forcibly taking over hundreds of hectares of land belonging to families and corporate organisations. We therefore appeal to the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Oladimeji to summon the required courage to deal decisively with these criminals”. CEDESER also urge the Ogun Speaker, RT Hon. Olakunle Oluomo to compel the executive arm of government in the state to enforce the PROHIBITION OF FORCIBLE OCCUPATION OF LANDED PROPERTIES, ARMED ROBBERY, KIDNAPPING, CULTISM AND OTHER ANTI-VIOLENCE AND RELATED OFFENCES LAW 2016 or withdraw the sections dealing with land grabbing.“ We also observed the that Owoeye and his gang goes about with persons in army and police uniforms which suggests some security agents are working hands in glove with the land grabbers. We therefore call on the Ogun state Speaker Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo to compel the Executive arm of government in the State especially the Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice to enforce the sections dealing with land grabbing in the PROHIBITION OF FORCIBLE OCCUPATION OF LANDED PROPERTIES, ARMED ROBBERY, KIDNAPPING, CULTISM AND OTHER ANTI-VIOLENCE AND RELATED OFFENCES LAW 2016 or withdraw the sections for the citizen to plan their own helps”. The group added.
