INDEPENDENCE DAY JAMBOREE: All Hail Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State
In his congratulatory message to the Governor Yahaya Bello and the People of the nation, Ashiwaju Idris who expressed appreciation to God for the relative peace in the country noted that President Buhari’s effort to tackle insurgency is commendable as it will attracts investors to the country.
He said the process of diversifying the economy is going on and assured that the country will bounce back in few months time.
He likened the situation to a graph with different turning point and emphasised that the the budget support facility for the States of the federation as well as the fiscal sustainability plan roll out by the Federal Ministry of Finance will effectively boost Nigeria economy.
similarly, The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Matters, Dr. Ahmed Attah, who whished Nigerians a happy independent anniversary noted that the celebration is worthwhile considering the hurdles the nation has passed through.
He expressed appreciation to the wife of the Governor, Mrs Rashida Bello for her support during the recent celebration of the World Hearth Day and advised Nigerians to avoid eating junks, maintain a healthy life style by engaging in exercise and avoid excessive salt, alcohol and smoking.
A member representing Yagba West in the State House of Assembly Barrister Toyin Lawal said the country has witnessed a tremendous growth especially in terms of infrastructure, human development and resources.
He said it is not an easy task to have come that far considering the success and failure of the country.
Barister Lawal said the president is wise in his decision to order for a low key celebration in response to the economic realities in the country.
He maintained that economic recession is not an unusual phenomenon citing Britain, America, and China as examples of countries that have passed through hardship but were able to bounce back.
The law maker called for policy and programmes that create employment and increase the purchasing power of the people.
According to him, the policy of the government to diversify the economy is a right step towards economic recovery pointing out that is is risky to rely on mono economy which can be affected by the slightest problem that affects the product.
Speaking on the controversy tailing the proposed sale of the national assets, Barister Toyin Lawal posited that moribund industries if sold, can become viable in the hands of private operators dressing that the sale of the national assets to augment the budget is not s bad idea as countries like Britain, American have done do before.
According to him, the country should encourage non oil export, mining and as well encourage small scale enterprises.
He called for prudence, priorities and logicality in governance saying it is unwise to embark on projects that will not benefit the people.
On the political scenario in Kogi State, Barrister Toyin who congratulated Governor Yahaya Bello on his victory st the supreme court urged the governor to bring all hands on deck to develop the state.
Barrister Mohammed Issa said Nigeria has passed through a turbulence history occasioned by colonialism, military rule embellished with coups and counter coup and democracy.
He said God ha been faithful to the country considering its myriads of challenges.
He appealed to the country to country to set aside ethnicity and intolerance in all their dealings.
Barrister Issah thanked Governor Bello for the blue print which he described as the operational manual of the present administration.
