Kogi Empowers Fire Service Officials
Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Urban Development, Alhaji Abdulmumuni Sadiq has charged Fire Fighters in the state to continually update their knowledge in modern techniques for fire prevention and management.
Alhaji Sadiq stated this during a seminar organised by the Kogi State Fire Agency under the Ministry of Works, Housing, Land and Urban Development, in collaboration with Highness Associate Limited in Lokoja.
The Commissioner who was represented by a permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engineer Adejoh Yusuf noted that the fire sector is crucial to present administration considering its importance in safe guarding government’s properties.
He said the government will not relent in providing the necessary equipment to enable them succeed in their operation and urged them to be attentive to various lectures that will be delivered during the seminar.
In a remark, the lead presenter at the workshop, Mr Godwin Agwele who explained that fire could be dangerous when out of control advised the public to always switch off electrical appliances when not in use.
He also advised smokers to be careful of where they drop their cigarette, ignited match sticks, removal of combustible items from home, and avoidance of overloaded sockets.
Earlier, the project coordinator who is also the Managing Director of Highness Associate Limited, Engineer Prince Lucky Adindu, said the idea of the seminar was ignited by the need to upgrade the knowledge of the Fire fighters.
He described the invention of fire as a miracle that is as old as human history and urged the public to be careful when man in use of fire.
Responding on behalf of the participants, a Director in the State Fire Agency, Mr Olorunmonu Adekunle and Mr Salaudeen Lukeman described the seminar as an eye opener to various development in power sector and thanked the State government for the opportunity given to them to participate.
The Administrator of Yagba East Local Government Area, Ashiru Abdulrazaq Ijagbemi says the recent award presented to Governor Yahaya Bello by the Inspector General of the police, Ibrahim Idris, will spire him to do more in the area of security.
Mr Ashiru who stated this while speaking with newsmen in LOKOJA said Kogi Stste will soon be a no go area for the men of the underworld.
He said the state is blessed with motivated and competent security men, Vigilantee group and dedicated citizens who are willing to provide useful information stressing that with combination of efforts, crime will be reduced to its nearest minimum.
He recalled that Yagba East is currently facing some challenges from arm bandits who usually migrates between Yagba East and West to perpetrate crime noting that four of them were arrested last week following useful tip off by the people.
On the recent visit of Governor Yahaya Bello to Omi Dam, the Administrator who expressed confidence that the project will assist in absolving the teeming youths noted that the farm settlement when completed will boost the revenue generation of the area.
