Amid Senate worries on milk importation,FrieslandCampina WAMCO reassures Senate
The Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has praised FrieslandCampina WAMCO for its local content programme which has led to the annual purchase of millions of litres of milk from local farmers as part of the raw materials for their production.
This was disclosed during a courtesy visit to Dr. Saraki by the Managing Director of FrieslandCampina WAMCO, Mr. Ben Langat and his team, Wednesday June 7.
While the Senate President decried the failure of some dairy companies in the country to produce milk locally for their operations, Mr. Langat affirmed that “FrieslandCampina WAMCO is committed to growing Nigeria’s dairy sector.
“Through our Dairy Development Programme (DDP), we have trained over 2000 Nigerian farmers, including 900 Fulani women across different communities in Oyo State, in cattle breeding, raw milk collection and global best practices.”
Supporting the Senate President’s position on speedy development of Nigeria’s dairy sector,
Langat stated that there is increased local content in FrieslandCampina WAMCO’s milk production.
Recently, the company invested 180 million Euros (N40 Billion) into its Nigerian operations through equity, established five milk collection centres through its DDP pilot in some communities in Oyo State and has an ongoing agreement with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development since 2010 to jointly develop Nigeria’s dairy industry.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi commissioned a 4.3 million-litre WAMCO milk collection centre in Saki, Oyo State Thursday June 8
