By Tricia Chinyere/ The Chairman, Lagos State Neighborhood Corps and retired deputy inspector general of police,Mr Isreal Ajao expressed worry over the serial killings of gangs that has been wiping out families in Ikorodu area of Lagos.
This was said while addressing Crime Writer Association of Nigeria (CRAN),at Oduduwa press centre,Lagos
According to him,all reports from the attacks have shown that the gang known as Badoo group might have been killing for rituals and fetish purposes.
The gangs are not ghost, only come out by wee hours to operate and they use the pistols and local grinding stones to smash the heads of entire families, clean the blood with white clothes and escape.
Ajao, said we believe there are receivers who benefit from this devilish act but enough is enough the killings need to stop. We are going deeper into this crime and find solution to end the attack which the cooperation of everyone in the community is needed, “We will strengthen public confident in all the security agencies,he said .
Speaking further ,the Corp would create awareness and sensitization workshop around all the local government areas in the state. The Lagos state Neighborhood Corp was established to complement the police and urged members of the public to provide useful information to the Corp enable them work . effectively.
Officers of the Corp are sons and daughters of the community. It is not about state of origin, but the person must be resident in Lagos and registered with the state. We have people from all the geographical locations of the country.
We have been mandated to do grassroots policing also known as community policing. We are not substitute for the Nigeria Police, but we complement the police. It is necessary seeing the level of crime in Lagos state reduced to zero. No matter how intelligent the security agencies are, without the cooperation of the members of the public, the police cannot perform. We therefore urge members of the public to use the toll free lines and send us anonymous messages if noticed any thing suspicious they should report immediately.
