Reverend Sister Rosemary Okata Charges Women to be Productive

Women have been charged to equip themselves with necessary skills for the sustenance of their rights and interest in the social political scene of the country.

The Executive Director of the Centre for Women Studies and Interaction, Reverend Sister Rose Mary Okata gave the advice in Lokoja in a message to the inauguration of the Kogi Women Empowerment Coalition ( KWEC).

Reverend Sister Okata who was represented by the project manager of (KWSI)Mr pascal Idogbe said women are naturally endowed with creative ability to transform the social economic conditions of the country and appealed to them to be united to promote their interest.

She expressed appreciation for the steady growth of  the association and commended the president who was a former Commissioner for Health,Doctor Dorcas Oluminyaq for sustaining the association.

The Reverend Sister also advised women to actively participate in politics by obtaining their voters and vie for elective positions.

She promised that the body would continue to agitate for the enactment of laws that would further promote gender equality.

In a remark,  the President of the Association, Mrs Dorcas Oluninya said the Association was founded in two thousand and was duly registered with the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

According to her, the association will improve on the socioeconomic conditions of women to be part of decision making body in the society.

In her good will message, a former Director in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiah Rasheed Bello urged women to always support one another through empowerment programs and political activities

She observed that there is no single woman in the state House of Assembly and stressed the need to address the imbalance in the next general election.
