Health Workers Chide F.G Over Strike in Lokoja Medical Centre
Speaking with news men in Lokoja, one of the patient on admission at the FMC, Mallam Salami Idris, described the incessant strike in the country as an unfortunate phenomenon that could be avoided by patriotic leaders.
“Many of those in the ward have vacated the hospital to seek help else where. I have no option than to remain here because the money is not even there. Imagine health sector with its crucial roles should never embark on strike. I appeal to the Federal Government to look into their issue”.
Reacting to the situation, the Chairman of JOHESU Obajemu Samuel said it was unfortunate for the union to be forced to down tool when the country is facing series of challenges.
According to him, JOHESU which tagged the industrial action as the ” alligator’s bite” has fulfilled all the necessary actions stipulated in industrial laws before taking their decision .
He explained that Government had been lukewarm towards meeting their demands adding that such lackadaisical attitude was responsible for the collapse of all the institutions.
He maintained that the Union among other things was clamouring for the adjustment of the CONHESS salary scale as done to Doctor’s CONMESS salary scale since 2014, abeyance to several court judgements on skipping of CONHESS 10 and headship of the laboratory department, the payment of all promotion arrears as far back as 2011, the revamp of all health sector and respect for the scheme of service and professionalism.
He appealed to the Federal Government to take their matter serious to avoid deaths that preventable if situations are normal.
