War Against Child Abuse: UNICEF Present Items to Lagos State Police Command

United Nation International Children Emergency funds (UNICEF) said that Nigerian Police are in the forefront of the campaign against violence in children in Nigeria.
UNICEF, said this at the Lagos State Command while donating electrical appliances and other office equipments to the command and the office of Defender to support Gender Juvenile welfare units in the State,
Speaking with journalist,in Lagos, Mrs Rocio Aznar, Child Protection Specialist and UNICEF representative during the presenting of the items commended the Lagos State Police Command for being in the forefront of the campaign against violence in children.
Rocio stressed the imperative of more campaigns against violence in children and why it should be a continuous exercise because in every 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys suffered domestic violent globally.
“We appreciate the commitment of the police and their support for the victims of violence. We have observed its high prevalence and in the fore front of the campaigner to stop this is the Lagos State Police Command.
According to her, this prompted our support with some equipments as we appreciate the campaign. People with minor offences should however be taken to juveniles centers instead of being mixed up with hardened criminals.
“We are here to support the Government of Nigeria and urge other MDAs to provide more support in managing victims of violence.” she said
Also speaks at the event, the Commissioner of Police , Edgal Imohinmi, who was represented by DCP Bolaji Salami of the State Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department (SCIID)appealed to the UNICEF Child Protection Centre for more supports for Gender Juvenile welfare made the appeal while receiving the items donated to the Gender/juvenile welfare units.
The CP further appreciated the gesture by UNICEF and assured the representatives that the equipments will be adequately utilized.
“We appreciate your gesture towards the welfare of juvenile and we assure you that the items will be used for its purpose.
“In line with taking care of juveniles, we need a center where the children can stay for a while before taken down to special homes.
