Buhari Appoints A Chadian Man As NIA Chief” -Rights Activist Insists

…..Says, Presidency defence is not tenable
A renowned human rights activist and Executive Chairman, Centre for
Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi
Sulaiman has insisted that the newly appointed Director –General of
the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, is
not hailed from Nigeria but a Chadian by birth, described the defence
put up by the Presidency to justify Abubakar’s appointment as ruse.
Comrade Sulaiman however, disclosed that the appointment of
non-Nigerian into the sensitive security position in the land had
caused security challenges in the past for the land because most of
the current heads  of security agencies in the country, were
misleading the President on true picture of the security situation in
Nigeria.
He strongly condemned the appointment of non-Nigerian into the
sensitive intelligence security outfit of the country by President
Muhammadu Buhari, noting that it was like recent appointment of dead
persons into the Federal Government Board of parastatals and agencies.
It would be recalled that President Buhari, few weeks ago, approved
the appointment of Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, a retired career Foreign
Service officer and Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on
Foreign Affairs/International Relations to replace the sacked National
Intelligence Agency’s Director General, Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The former DG of the agency, Mr. Ayo Oke was sacked on 30TH of
October, 2017, following the recommendation of the Vice President Yemi
Osinbajo led investigative committee over $43.5m stashed cash found in
an empty flat at Osborne Towers in Ikoyi,Lagos State.
Speaking on the issue through a statement made available to newsmen
on Monday, Sulaiman who rejected the Presidency’s claimed that the new
NIA boss hailed form Kastina State, stating that Abubakar’s parents
were from Republic of Chad, explaining that Abubakar’s wife is from
Republic of Morroco not Kastina state as being claimed by the
Presidency.
Sulaiman then called for the immediate removal of Mr. Abubakar as NIA
Director- General, maintaining that the continue stay in office of
Ahmed would spell doom for the nation’s security sector, adding that
the recent statement credited to Abubakar that the security agents
should be monitoring the comments of Nigeria on the media, was as a
result of his non-Nigerian nature.
