Don’t Trivialise Offa Incident For Political Gain’ -Kwara Gov Ahmed
By Oyewale Oyelola, ILORIN/ Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has cautioned politicians from using the robbery attack that happened in Offa last week to score cheap political points.
Governor Ahmed made this call on Thursday during the swearing in of Honorable Khadi Mas’ud Oniye as the Khadi of Shariah Court of Appeal,Ilorin.
According to him: “The tragic events at Offa have expectedly provoked diverse emotions and debate on the nature and extent of the attack. However, while such expressions are mostly well-intentioned, I urge all well-meaning citizens to resist any attempt by anyone to use the tragedy for political purposes. What has befallen us is too terrible and saddening for anyone to trivialize for selfish political gain.
“Those utterances do not reflect our values as Kwarans and should stop, out of respect for the dead and injured. Rather, our people must be vigilant and security conscious as part of community involvement in effective policing.”
Recall that Kwara State Governor visited Olofa of Offa during the weekend to condole with the king and the entire people of the town over the deadly robbery attack that claimed 18 lives including nine policemen.
Gov Ahmed aside from promising bounty of N5million for anybody with useful information that could aid arrest of the robbers, visited some of the victims in the hospitals where he announces that the state government would take care of their medical bills.
While, Kwara State Government is currently working with Police authority to build new police station for Offa in a strategic and befitting location within the town.
Our Correspondent also gathered that the state government will soon purchase Armored Personnel Carriers for Police to fortify the security system in Kwara State.
