DPR Warns Against Unapproved Constructions of Petrol Stations
By Ola Simon, LOKOJA/ Those interested in the construction of filling stations have been urged to consult the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to avoid mistakes that could lead to sanctions in the nearest future.
The Acting Director of Operations of the Department, Mr Abidoye Samuel, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja.
Mr Abidoye said there are laws guiding the location of filling stations which prospective investors in the sector must be conversant with.
He advised that marketers should embark on proper consultation to avoid environmental hazards and loss in the business.
According to him, there is need for presentation site suitability and survey plan which bother on the proximity to water source as well as the closeness to high tension wire adding that each filling station must be four hundred metres apart.
He however emphasized that some people have ignorantly flaunted the law in the past resulting to various sanctions and at times the placement of ‘stop work’ order.
Other requirements according of him include the certificate of incorporation, clearance from the fire service, police, task and building approval among others.
