Kogi Labour Leaders Accuse Yahaya Bello Of Diverting Workers’ Salary
*Charges State Govt.To Pay Kogi Workers’ Salaries.
The United Labour Congress ( ULC) Kogi state chapter has disclosed that the union was formed as a child of circumstances to fight for the continued worsening condition of livings of Nigerian workers .
The state chairman of the Union Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo Simeon stated this on Tuesday on this year’s workers day celebration in Lokoja ,kogi state capital.
Comrade Simeon noted that this year celebration is to mark the brutal death of their predecessors across the globe who paid supreme price for workers both in public and private sectors to have decent livings .
He added that the situation that led to the shedding of blood of the leadership of workers in the hands of the establishment in Chicago in the 18th century has continued to resonate in Nigeria saying ULC was formed to continue the struggle for the emancipation of Nigerian workers.
The Union boss lamented at the draconian attitude of Kogi government who takes delight in diverting funds meant for the payment of workers salaries for their greed , stressed that the Union will not rest on its oars until workers are accorded their rightful place in the work environment
According to him ” Kogi state is not an exception, in that, workers and pensioners despite having scaled the hurdles of verificalion exercise have their arrears not paid despite quantum of cash flow witness in the state in the last 28 months.
” The emergence of United Labour Congress is a direct response to the myriad of worsening national issues confronting Nigeria and the workers and Kogi is not an exception.
” We shall continue to, in our original purpose of service , protecting and projecting the interest and expectations of the workers in the state both the public and private sectors” he informed.
While stressing for a new minimum wage that will be able to take the workers home, said it will not be deterred from standing on #96,000 minimum wage for his members whose functions are so critical to the corporate survival of the people of this country.
He explained that his members which cut across 24 industrial Unions mainly from the Electricity, Banking and Insurance, , petroleum and gas ; steel and Aviation and allied unions which he said have the capacity to put the nation under its knees.
He appealed to the Government to resuscitate Technical Education in the country to encourage technological breakthroughs adding that no nation developed without its solid technology base even as he vowed to continue with the struggle until Ajaokuta Steel Company is brought back on stream.
It would be recalled that the trade Union Congress was formed as a breakaway from NLC under the trade Union Act of 2004
