Lagos State police command arrested over 26 suspected cultists in Epe area of the State. The suspects were said to be members of Aiye confraternity who were arrested during an alleged initiation ceremony in a forest on 23/06/2018. It was said that some members of the group came from various parts of southwest for the initiation. The police claims arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspected cultists.

However, further interrogation by SECURITY MONITOR depicts that five 5 of the alleged member of Eiye denied being members of the group; “We were tortured and forced by the police to write false statement. We are not cultists.”

Adams Rasheed, 20, said; “ I work as Driller, I am going to meet my Oga at a site where we are drilling borehole around 7am on Saturday when the police arrested me at bus stop, took me to the station and after terrible beating and torture forced me to write statement that I am a cult member”.

Another paraded suspect, Owolabi Sanni, 25, said “I am being tortured since Saturday. I am not a cult member, police arrested me on my way to my workshop, and they denied me access to my family. Nobody knows my whereabouts in my family.”

Could police force a suspect to accept wrong accusation against himself? The Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal who paraded all the suspects “involving in one criminal activities or the other” stated that investigations were ongoing. He appealed to parents to always monitor the activities of their children to ensure that they are not lured into deadly group.
