Osun Pensioners: Your Government is clueless, Activist tells Oyetola
A renowned human rights activist, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman has
described the present administration of Mr. Gboyega Oyetola in Osun
State as clueless Government.
Sulaiman who spoke on the recent protest embarked upon by the Senior
Citizens under the auspices of 2011/2012 retirees of the State Chapter
of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) over the non- payment of
fifteen (15) months’ pension arrears.
In a signed Press statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, he
maintained that it is against the law of natural justice and good
conscience for any reasonable administration to be watching these
Senior citizens to be suffering for their legitimate entitlements.
Sulaiman who is the Chairman of an Osun based civil group, the Civil
Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEOS),
stated that Government was a continuum and Mr. Oyetola could not claim
ignorance of how his predecessor ( Rauf Aregbesola) in office plunge
the State into irredeemable debt regime over frivolous projects that
were not see the light of the day.
It would be recalled that Mr. Oyetola served as Chief of Staff to
immediate past administration of Mr. Rauf Aregbesola for almost eight
years.
According to him, “the good people of Osun State just woke up few days
ago and saw hundreds of their Senior Citizens thronged to the street
of the State capital (Osogbo) protesting against the non-payment of
their pension arrears by the present administration.
” And to the Surprise of the people, the same Government that is
supposed to look inward on how to ameliorate the suffering of these
retirees who had served the state meritoriously at their prime age,
now, sponsoring dissidents in the ruling party (APC), tagged them
Triangular Pensioners to counter genuine retirees in the State”.
He further stressed that the government’s singular action for
sponsoring dissidents against the genuine agitators, shows a sign of
bad governance, incompetency and failure on the part of Oyetola’s
administration.
On the issue of security in the State, Sulaiman who doubles as
Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice
(CHRSJ), disclosed that Oyetola’s government was a monumental failure
and nothing to write home about in the administration of the State.
Rejecting the recent postulation by Mr. Gboyega Oyetola that Osun
State was in safer hand with him and he said Oyetola’s claim, was
misleading and not for sincerity of purpose but just a mere political
statement to cajole the unsuspected members of the public.
The rights activist of many years standing insisted that the State
which used to be the most peaceful State in the country, had become
one of leading insecure State in the Federation since Oyetola came on
board as Governor of the State through the most controversial
governorship election.
“If not for God, one would have said that ‘the July 5th, 2019 Supreme
Court Judgment on the Osun Governorship tussle may not favour Mr.
Gboyega Oyetola? in order to save the State from further disaster”,
he submitted.
Sulaiman therefore stressed that the group had concluded arrangement
to put the present administration on its toes for the betterment of
the good people of Osun State.
