CHRSJ Reports FCIID, Alagbon to IGP, PSC, NHRC, Police Reform Panel Over Land-grab Case in Ogun

**Says policemen colluding with foreigners to kill 89 year-old
retire teacher*
A civil right group, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ)
has dragged some personnel attached to the Force Criminal Investigation and
Intelligence Department (F.C.I.I.D), Alagbon, Ikoyi Lagos to relevant
authorities for colluding with some land grabbers to dispossess a 89-year
old retired teacher of his land.
CHRSJ recalled that the men of the Force Criminal Investigation
Department (FCID), Alagbon,Ikoyi, Lagos State, had been earlier
alleged of illegal intervention into the Court matter on the property
belonging to the family of late Alhaji Busari Apata of Mokola
area,Ibadan in Oyo State in respect of the invitation letter dated
12th August,2020, inviting one Pastor Michael Olatunbosun Apata of
Light House Church,Shamanda, Ibadan on the same matter before the Oyo
State High Court of Justice,Ibadan Judicial Division with suit
no:-I/563/2018.
In a statement signed by the Executive Chairman of CHRSJ, Adeniyi Alimi
Sulaiman accused men of the FCIID of disregarding series of judicial
pronouncements on the dispute by siding with suspects believed to be
foreigners to dispossess Mr. Tajudeen Adeleke Ajikobi of his land.
Findings conducted by CHRSJ revealed that Ajikobi’s traducers are from
Akaja in neighbouring country of Benin Republic.
Ajikobi who retired as a teaching staff of Community Primary School. Ilero
in Ipokia Local Government of Ogun State in 1992 is said to have been
locked in dispute with people over the ownership of the disputed land.
According to the CHRSJ, those in battle of ownership with Ajikobi include,
Denapo Odebija, Boya Odebija, Adebayo Odebija, Debeyon Odebija, Suuru
Sokere, Huntepo Wentoji, Daasi Odebija, Daasi Afunye, Ashade Viadinu.
Others are Owolabi Hovode, Denagon Viadinu, Dodonu Viadinu, Hodewu Sango,
Whase Yezio, Pedepo Viadinu, Agemo Odewu, Agbomenu Viadinu, Buraimo
Viadinu, Tito Viadinu (Olori Odo) and their thugs amogst others.
On the other hand, Ajkobi’s claim to the land is hereditary and a joint one
alongside others namely, Saliu Odebiyi and Gani Aleke being descendants of
one Oladepo Ogundoje who is said to have bought the land situated in
Odan-Igbomasa in Agosasa Area of Yewa South Local Government of Ogun State
in 1802.
To affirm his ownership, Ajikobi had in the past secured three separate
judgments in his favour but rather than help him affirm his ownership, men
of the FCIID have disregarded the judgments and have gone ahead to harass
him in the bid of the other parties to take over the property.
The three separate judgments were obtained, first in 1995 vide suit number
ESGI/265Cl/95 at the Grade 1 Customary Court of Ogun State sitting in
Ilaro, the headquarters of Egbado South.
The second judgment was obtained at the state High Court in Ilaro in suit
number, HCL/7A/96 delivered by Justice Bode Popoola on Wednesday, 26th of
February, 1997.
The third judicial pronouncement was a ruling obtained at the same court in
suit number, HCL/7A/96 delivered by Justice Bode Popoola, on Thurday 5th of
May, 1998.
Sulaiman in the statement claimed that “Though they (Ajikobi’s opponents)
have failed to appeal the various judicial outcomes, they have however
resulted to self-help which are extra-judicial in their bid to take over
the land illegally.”
The human rights activist claimed that the other parties have continued to
engage in acts of thuggery in connivance with some chiefs in the area such
as Baale Akala of Idabata village, Chief Hundenu Hun-eke, Chief Sunday
Gbokiki Odofin, Chief Akala Balogun.
Other listed as perversing the course of justice include, Chief Ndeto
Medetanya, Asogba Ashade, Hungbeme Jimoh, Alabi Babatobi and others.
Sulaiman added that many of the people listed above had in the past been
declared wanted by the Agosasa Police Station, Oko Isu in Ipokia Local
Government on allegation of posing a threat to the live of Ajikobi.
“They ran away when the police launched a man-hunt for them through the
Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of the area (phone number +2348034676563)
who discovered that their claim to the land was through some forged
documents.” Sulaiman said.
According to Sulaiman, “These characters sought the help of some personnel
in Alagbon to help them when they could not get support of those in Agosasa
who insisted that the judgments must be obeyed.
“When they got to Alagbon they connived with one personnel named Rita and
her superior, one Inspector Geofrey (with phone number +2348066650675) to
continue to harass the old man with a view to make him give up the
ownership of the land.”
The group added that Ajikobi was illegally arrested and detained by Geofrey
and his team in FCIID on Wednesday 4th of November, 2020 on the prompting
of his opponents.
Sulaiman added that “but for the swift intervention of one Assisant
Commissioner of Police, R.O Lawal (with phone number +2348034547785) and
Ajikobi’s lawyer, Mr. Tunde Ogunsola (with number +2348022848820), possibly
Ajikobi would still have been in detention until they force him to
illegally sign some documents that would make him give up the land.”
He added that when the efforts to dispossess him of the land failed,
Geofrey and his team resorted to extortion by asking him to part with the
sum of N1 million (one million Naira) for him to secure his release.
The group is however calling on relevant authorities to wade in by
investigating the errant personnel whom it accused of gross misconduct
prejudicial to police service discipline.
Specifically, CHRSJ urged the Police Service Commission, the National Human
Rights Commission (NHRC) to dismiss and prosecute the affected officers
perverting justice, saying refusal to do so would attract mass action which
will be akin to the #Endsars advocacy .
“We are calling on both the police service commission and the human rights
to dismiss and prosecute these personnel for acts prejudicial to service
discipline, otherwise, we will not hesitate to picket Alagbon.”
Signed:
Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman,
(Revolutionary Alfa),
Executive Chairman CHRSJ,
