2023: Why Nigeria Deserves Female President’, -Adesanya-Davies: “The moment a woman becomes president, those criminal elements will sheath their swords and embrace peace”

In retrospect, an article titled “Group canvases for woman President in 2023” was published by “The Sun” Nigeria, — Benjamin Babine in Abuja, on 6th August 2020 by Excellent Women International (EXWI), a Non-Governmental Organization, that is pushing for deeper women involvement in politics, saying, it would be a most excellent development if a woman emerges as the President of Nigeria in 2023. Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies said, this is a very welcome development because, “I will contest! I have a dream, that one day, a woman will emerge as the President of Nigeria, and the dream is now!!!”

“The National Coordinator of EXWI, Dr Christabel Okoye, made the disclosure when the organization honoured the Minister of Women Affairs, Dr Paulen Talen and other accomplished women, for their outstanding and excellent achievements. According to her, countless numbers of distinguished and accomplished Nigerian women abound in the country that will help grow the country.

“Okoye noted that a female president in Nigeria would not only address the country’s problems, but could also perform better than the previous male presidents. She said: “A woman, if voted into the position of President in this country will outperform her male counterparts, not even 99%, but 100%. Give a woman the position and watch her for the next two years and see the wonder she will perform. Have you forgotten the performance of late Prof Dora Akunyili and Okonjo-Iweala?”

Okoye further explained that EXWI has been a partner with the Women Affairs Ministry since 2006 and has executed numerous projects since then with them. “I registered Excellent Women International in 2002 under CAC and I obtained partnership with the Ministry in 2006 and since then I have been working with them on different projects,” she said.

In another development, on 2023 Presidential election, a lawyer, Mr Chuks Akamadu, says that” Nigeria is ready for female president ahead of the 2023 General Elections. “Mr Chuks Akamadu, an Abuja-based legal practitioner has said that the country is ripe for a female president, considering women’s roles in the society. Akamadu, who said this on Sunday in Abuja, while marking the 40th birthday anniversary of his wife noted that the current security challenges facing the country would reduce drastically once a woman becomes president. The legal practitioner added that he would cast his vote for a female presidential candidate in 2023, adding that a female president would give the country a new direction.”

According to him, “I can assure you that all the bandits, insurgents and other criminal elements in the country will obey when women speak. The reason why security challenges facing the country are yet to abate is because women are yet to step forward to really call their children and husbands to order. The moment a woman becomes president, those criminal elements will sheath their swords and embrace peace, no matter how hidden they are, they will listen to the voices of their wives and mothers”, he said. He opined that taking a look at the political trajectory of the country, it was high time a woman became the president, while urging the citizenry to try women in the positions of leadership.

Akamadu, who is also the President of Centre for Ethical Rebirth Among Nigerian Youth (CERANY), an NGO, added that, “it would be a different ball game and a new chapter in the life of the country. “Let us give it a shot, women are passionate people, women are not as transit, they are not as manipulative as their male counterpart,” he said. Akamadu further noted that women loved getting things done unlike their men counterpart who usually allow themselves to be driven by ego.

“He also stressed the need to get the family unit right, adding that the family remained the most important single unit of the society. “Get the family unit right, you will have gotten the community right, get the state right and the entire nation, the entire human race would have gotten it right. “If we can get it right at the family unit, I can assure you whether you like it or not, you will begin to graduate towards the larger society,” he said.

Therefore as such, towards the 2023 election, the first woman to declare her intention is a lady academic politician, the Presidential candidate of Mass Action Joint Alliance (MAJA) in the 2019 election, Prof. Mercy Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies (PMA). She has declared her interest to contest during the 2023 general election for the President of Nigeria under the platform of the PDP, urging all women to participate actively and give her their full support.

Adesanya-Davies said, “I will contest! I have a dream, that one day, a woman will emerge as the President of Nigeria, and the dream is now!!! We, women need to try our best in 2023 at all levels. From now onwards, every woman should endeavour to speak to at least fifty women to vote for a ‘woman President,’ in Nigeria. Tell five women daily from now till 2023 elections. Remember, Martin Luther King Jr. said, ‘Your happiness starts from you and not from someone else.’ So should all the Nigerian youth and all the ‘he for she’ and all the men campaign and vote for the first female president in Nigeria in 2023. This could and would be the only functional approach.”

Adesanya-Davies is the current Country President and International Director of United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC) International Peace Advocates. She said that, “when intelligent, dedicated and women of excellence are empowered and put in top political positions, corruption, lack of development and all forms of vices and violence in their entirety can completely be exhumed from Nigeria.”

Now, she again wants to become the first Female president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, let’s think over it, let’s seriously consider her as they have all muted and give her a chance – Both at the primaries and at the general elections, in order to move our nation forward.
