Hijab Crises: Group expresses concern over CAN’s threat to unleash violence: “threatening violence over other people’s human right is the height of insensitivity by CAN”

A leading Pro-Democracy group, Kwara Must Change has expressed sadness over the threat by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ijagbo chapter, to unleash violence that the state government cannot contain over the issue of hijab, cautioning the leadership of the group to desist from undermining the constitution of Nigerian laws enacted by the Kwara State House of Assembly and attempting to foist an atmosphere of crisis on the state of harmony.
The group also said that, threatening violence over other people’s human right is the height of insensitivity by CAN, noting that such conduct should not be associated to a body which should advance the teachings of Jesus Christ.
In a statement by the Convener of Kwara Must Change, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, which was a reaction to a threatening statement by CAN, Ijagbo chapter, threatening the state government with violence over the issue of hijab.
Kwara Must Change stated that, it is incomprehensible that a religious body like CAN, which should be a symbol of righteousness, respect for constituted authority and accord due regard to the laws of the land, will reduce itself to an organization, which would be threatening violence over a matter that has been adjudicated by a court of competent jurisdiction.
Kwara Must Change maintained that, the era of threatening people with violence over exercise of their lawful right inline with laid down rules and regulations is over, noting that, anyone who threatens the peace of the state of harmony will be made to account for their actions.
Hamzat added that,”For us at Kwara Must Change, it is not permissable for anyone to threaten to jeopardize the peace of the state. If anyone is displeased by any law, they should go to court. Threatening to unleash violence over a legal matter is taking one’s right too far and such should not be tolerated by the government” it said.
Recall that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ijagbo chapter on Tuesday, threatened that if the decision to implement appeal Court judgement, granting students rights to hijab was not reverse, it would lead to a crisis the state government won’t be able to contain.
