HOW OFFICIALS FACILITATE DRUG TRADE IN KIRIKIRI PRISON, DEMAND BRIBE BEFORE RELEASING SUSPECT ON BAIL

By Ibrahim Olayiwola/LAGOS// In a shocking expose, investigations has uncovered widespread corruption and criminality within Kirikiri Prison Service which involves senior prison officials in Lagos State, Nigeria.
On 14th/11/2024, our investigative team, led by Olayiwola Ibrahim, an Associate Editor witnessed a clare case of bribery involving Prison Officer Mr. Austin and his accomplice, Mr. Dele as the duo demanded ₦8,000 from inmates released by court of competent jurisdiction.
James Agba, Joshua kehinde, Gideon Ufana and Freedom Dike, despite presenting valid court orders were not going to be released until they parted with certain amount of money, the official insisted.
When confronted, Mr. Austin and Mr. Dele showed no remorse, even after recognizing Security Monitor team who have been invited to expose their criminality. “Nothing will happen, that’s how it is been done here”, they said boastfully.
Aside the case of James and his colleagues , further investigations revealed that KIRIKIRI Prison officials often collude with inmate leaders known as marshals to extort money from newly admitted prisoners.
SECURITY MONITOR also discovers that the Prison officials facilitate hard drug sales and consumption within the prison.
The released inates also told SECURITY MONITOR that prisoners are forced to pay bribes for basic necessities.
“I was shocked by the audacity of Mr. Austin and Mr. Dele, Their actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the rule of law and human rights”, A human right activist told our reporters at the scene.
The activist who calls for immediate investigation and prosecution of implicated officials noted there is need to address corruption in the correctional centers and ensure fair welfare for the inmates.
