Kabambe Downplays Afrobarometer Report, Urges Malawians to Trust UTM
By Michael Martin//Malawi
Dalitso Kabambe, President of the United Transformation Movement (UTM), has dismissed the recent Afrobarometer survey results, which suggested that the UTM would only secure seven percent of votes if elections were held this year.
Kabambe attributed the results to the timing of the survey, which was conducted before the UTM held its convention to elect new leadership following the death of Saulos Chilima.
The Afrobarometer survey, conducted in August 2024, reported that the UTM would receive only seven percent of votes if elections were held at that time.
However, Kabambe argued that the survey’s findings were influenced by the uncertainty surrounding the party’s direction at the time.
Kabambe urged Malawians not to read too much into the Afrobarometer survey results and instead trust the UTM as the only party capable of genuinely changing the country’s economic status.
He emphasized that the UTM’s policies are designed to directly address the needs of the people.
Kabambe encouraged Malawians to register to vote and harvest the transformation that the UTM promises to bring after the 2025 general elections.
He expressed confidence that the party’s popularity would increase significantly if the survey were conducted again, given the party’s newfound unity and support from the masses.
