Landmark Judgement Expected in Lule’s Case
By Michael Martin//MALAWI
Tomorrow 11th December 2024, Dr. Chifundo Kachale of the Lilongwe High Court is set to deliver a highly anticipated judgement in the case of Buleya Lule, who died in a police cell in 2019.
Buleya Lule was accused of abducting and killing a boy with albinism in 2019.
However, before he could stand trial, Lule died in police custody, sparking widespread outrage and calls for justice.
Thirteen police officers, including former Acting Commissioner of Police in Central Region Evalista Chisale, were charged with Lule’s murder.
During the trial, the defence completed parading witnesses, with Martha Chizuma, former Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), being the last to testify.
But in a previous ruling, Judge Kachale found 10 police officers with a case to answer in Lule’s murder.
Tomorrow’s judgement is expected to bring closure to the case and provide justice for Lule’s family.
The judgement is highly anticipated, and many are eagerly waiting to see how Judge Kachale will rule. Will justice be served, or will the case take another turn? Only time will tell.
