In an era where youth often dominates the charts in music circles, one woman is rewriting the rules with rhythm, wit, and unapologetic flair.

Jetu, born Christina Malaya, is the 73-year-old Malawian sensation proving that passion knows no age limit.

Her latest single dubbed “Pangolin” is a bold, danceable love anthem shaking up the local urban music scene, delivered in her signature comedic meets musical style.

Jetu hails from Bangwe Township in Blantyre, Malawi. A firebrand from childhood, she earned her nickname after a famed Zambian boxer due to her fierce nature and schoolyard scuffles.

But it was after the death of her husband in 2019 that her journey into stardom truly began.

Living with her grandchildren and seeking emotional healing, Jetu turned to TikTok and YouTube for expression.

Her videos raw, witty, and relatable won her a cult following online. But it wasn’t until 2023 that she launched her music career, becoming Malawi’s unlikeliest yet most authentic Amapiano Queen.

Released on June 30, 2025, “Pangolin” is not just a song but it’s a declaration. Over a hypnotic Amapiano beat, Jetu makes a humorous yet heartfelt plea: she wants her lover released to the public so his love can be celebrated openly.

Chanting: “Ndimutulutse moune pango eeee! Katundu wa boma alamwanu pango sure! Ona pangolin, ona pango eeee!” Loosely translated: “Let me show him off like a government asset my precious pangolin!”

In a culture where older women are expected to shrink from public affection or romantic visibility, Jetu does the opposite.

She demands attention. She dances. She sings of love. And the crowd cheers her on.

Jetu’s discography is steadily growing. She first went viral in 2023 with “Ali Ndi Ine”, a track that laid the foundation for her rise.

Since then, songs like **“Simunatchene”, “Chakwaza”**, and “Waimanya” have cemented her as a force in Malawi’s Amapiano and urban music circuits.

Her music is playful yet powerful. It’s rooted in local language and culture, but the themesvlove, liberation, confidence are universal.

According to her manager Emmu Dee, “Pangolin is just the beginning. We have more songs coming before the year ends. Jetu is not slowing down.”

She’s breaking age barriers in an industry dominated by youth. She’s redefining womanhood, showing older women as vibrant, romantic, and bold.

She blends comedy, culture, and rhythm in a way that resonates deeply with fans across generations.
