The Presidential Villa in Abuja was marked by solemn reflection on Monday as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, paid a heartfelt visit to the State House Press Gallery to honour the late Dr. Leon Usigbe, Abuja Bureau Chief of the Nigerian Tribune.

Signing the condolence register opened by the State House Press Corps, CGC Adeniyi described the late journalist as “a seasoned professional who carried out his duties with rare depth, integrity, and commitment to the ideals of journalism.”

Clearly moved by the loss, Adeniyi wrote: “We have lost a giant in the media landscape. Dr. Usigbe was a journalist of uncommon excellence whose dedication to truth and fairness made him a reference point for many in the profession.”

The Customs chief, known for his strong support for transparency and constructive media relations, extended his sympathies to the Usigbe family, the Nigerian Tribune, and members of the State House Press Corps. He urged them to find strength in the legacy Dr. Usigbe leaves behind.

Renowned for his incisive political reporting and fearless journalism, Dr. Usigbe earned national recognition for his unwavering commitment to truth and accountability. His passing has prompted tributes from across the media, political circles, and civil society, reflecting the depth of the loss.

The condolence register continues to receive heartfelt messages from top government officials, senior journalists, and close associates — all attesting to the lasting influence of a man whose name stood for principled journalism.
