Police officers from Igbeba Police Station in Ijebu Ode have been detained due to allegations of extorting ₦99,000 from a student.
By Morris Nor// The Ogun State Police Command responded to a report detailing the events of October 7, when the officers stopped Olawale Ayomide while he was driving from Sagamu to Ijebu-Ode in his mother’s car. The officers allegedly accused him of driving without proper license plates, despite his explanation regarding the ongoing registration process, and eventually forced him to surrender the money. A crucial piece of evidence emerged when one of the officers accidentally left his police cap in the vehicle.
The victim’s mother, Mrs. Omolabake, discovered the cap and urged her son to disclose the full story. Police authorities intervened swiftly after the incident attracted attention. The Commissioner of Police summoned the Division Police Officer and the accused officers to the state headquarters in Eleweeran, where they were reprimanded and detained. The victim has been contacted by the DPO to arrange a refund of the extorted money.
