A 30 year old woman from Lilongwe has tragically died in a case that has left her family and community in shock.
We gathered that Memory Kamange who went missing on the 11th of this month was reportedly living with epilepsy and had been searching for treatment to manage her seizures.
In her efforts to find help, she is said to have been receiving medication from Philip Malenga, a 48 year old man from Mgona Township in Lilongwe.
According to information shared during her funeral, Memory became concerned when the dark colored medicine she had been given did not improve her condition.
She reportedly contacted Malenga to inform him that the treatment was not working.
He allegedly suggested that they meet so he could provide her with more effective medication.
Hoping this would finally bring relief from her illness, Memory agreed to meet him.
They are said to have gone to the Botanical Gardens in Lilongwe.
It is alleged that while there, the suspect forced himself on her despite her resistance.
Authorities say that afterward, fearing she might report the incident, he strangled her with shoelaces and tied her hands and feet before leaving her in the bush and she later died at the scene.
Police report that the suspect confessed and led officers to the Botanical Gardens where the incident allegedly occurred.
He was arrested after being found in possession of Memory’s mobile phone.
Memory, who had completed her studies at the University of Malawi two years ago, was laid to rest at Area 18 Cemetery in Lilongwe.
