Read Senator Sola Adeyeye’s Latest Article, Titled: Right Is Right

A while back, in June 2016 to be precise, I wrote a piece entitled STIGMATIZING PRESIDENT BUHARI. In it, I wrote in good conscience to defend the President in the wake of what seemed to me to be unfair lampoons and stigmatization. I have just seen a version of my write-up that included insertions and punctuations that did not emanate from me!

Unfortunately, there is little I can do when as with Iyabo Obasanjo, a piece I wrote in In the past is recycled as a new release! This is the bane of the Internet age in which, in the absence of an editorial board, any information can be recycled ad Infinitum and stripped out of its original context.

Suffice to say that unlike when my article was written, it is now quite difficult for many of President Buhari’s loyalists to defend the clannishness of this regime.

Regrettably, the Lilliputians who populate President Buhari’s innermost power circle suffer from extreme myopia and dwarfism. Rather than grow into  Nigeria’s giant shoes which they inherited, they have scandalously cut those shoes to fit their own miniaturized feet! They remind us of the apt words of Seneca that a dwarf remains a dwarf even when he stands on a mountain!

Matter of fact, had they succeeded in cuting the large sized shoes to fit their lilliputan feet, they might be a forgivable lot for thinking (presumably of course) that fitting shoes could make them walk, even run faster. But they cut the shoes open rather poorly and now plod incompetently, without shame across a muddy landscape.

As my article got recirculated in the last three days, it had assumed a new import of its own. Not surprisingly, many have heaped opprobriums on me because of a belief that I have just written this in a blind and self-serving defense of the President.

Someone wrote that I would never dare disagree with the President so that he does not terminate the appointment of my wife as the Director-General of NAFDAC. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Not too long ago, when the Principal Officers of the National Assembly met with the President, respectful as I was towards the President, no one was as blunt, categorical and unyielding as I was in pointing out missteps of the Presidency. At the conclusion of the meeting, it was only my contribution that drew protestations from the Executive. By the grace of God, my wife and I will rather gladly relinquish our offices than mortgage our conscience.

I will never abandon my leaders, colleagues or subordinates in the hour of difficulty. But if they are wrong on any matter, my conscience will never allow me to say that they are right. Only right is right!
