Ex Kaduna Governor Umar Mulls Legal Action Against Globacom Over Illegal Chrges

A former military Governor of old Kaduna State, Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (rtd), has threatened to take telecommunication giant, Globacom to court over what he described as continuous and incessant deduction of funds from his phone subscription if the telecommunication does not tender an unreserved apology in 14 days.

In a statement written on his behalf by his lawyer, Osa Director Esq. and made available to the Point, Umar revealed that he has noticed with utter consternation and disdain the consistent but illegal deductions of funds from his phone payment, a situation which he described as unacceptable.

The Harvard-trained politician and scientist disclosed that the illegal deductions stem from the bogus claim of subscription to unsolicited offers of jokes, wiki and others. According to the fiery former military governor, an average of N 400 (Four Hundred Naira) is deducted daily from his phone account. He added ” such deductions could easily be glossed over, but when you consider a possible deduction of N 400.00 from 100 million subscribers daily, that would amount to a sum of about N4 billion daily taken off innocent and unsuspecting subscribers”.

Umar revealed that his commitment and stance on the virtues and principles of accountability, transparency and best practices will no allow him turn a deaf ear and a blind eye while the unsuspecting members of the public are being daily fleeced by the telecommunication giant. He therefore called on the telecommunication company to immediately and without delay cease from such fraudulent deductions and underhand cut on behalf of other subscribers.

The radical former military administrator stated that he is not driven by any material gain or desire. He maintained that his quest and desire is to ensure equity and that no subscriber was fleeced unduly.  “I am not seeking any monetary compensation for the inconvenience and rude embarrassment caused me by such unwarranted financial deductions. I am demanding an outright and immediate stoppage of such illegal deductions, and a written apology within 14 days, failure to so do will necessitate a legal action” Umar quipped.
