Ebonyi Police Arrest Youth Activist, Lawyers In Abakaliki
By Wale Abideen/ When Nwokwu Daniel set out on Saturday 9th June, 2018 from Nnewi to his home town of Abakaliki, he apparently had no idea that trouble was lying in the offing and as he arrived around 6pm at Ezza road. He crossed the road to get a bike that will take him home when suddenly a police Hilux Van stopped by the other road side and two police officers armed to the teeth hurried out of the van, shouting “holam holam”, “see this one he wear white”
According to the message he sent to SECURITY MONITOR, Nwokwu, a teacher, program facilitator, youth motivator, human activist and youth advocator. said he was manhandle and torture “by the wicked police officers”.
As he was trying to found out why he was arrested, Nwokwu explained that the police accused him of beaten a female police officer in a wedding at Women Development Center(WDC)
But Nwokwu denied ever attended the wedding ceremony as he claimed ignorance of the allegation against him. The DPO of Kpirikpiri Police Station then transferred him and three other lawyers arrested for same allegation to SARS office in Udens. Their belongings were consequently seized by SARS operatives.
The oratory activist said that his arrest, humiliation and detention was illegal, wrongful and abuse of his fundamental human rights.
“What is Nigeria Police turning to? Is this how we’re going live? Is this the Nigeria of our dream? Is this why the police was establish? What does the case in question has to do with Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)?” These are the questions Nwokwu posted to SECURITY MONITOR as he promises to demand justices to the later.
