Kogi Erosion Manager Speaks About The Recent Flood Disaster

Strict Compliance to building regulations have been identified as a permanent solution to flood and its attendance effect.

Kogi State Coordinator for the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, Barrister Ladi Jatto, who stated this while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja said the impact of the flood can only be tackled through action plans towards permanent relocation of those living in flood prone areas.

Barrister Jatto said the topography of the state lies at the down stream level which naturally attracts water from the upstream hence the need for total compliance to building rules.

Her words” Kogi State has been experiencing flood right from time. In fact in the year twenty twelve, it was a serious one. If we look at it, the major cause of flooding is heavy rainfall which (NIMET) had predicted earlier. The good thing is that it is not as bad as that of twenty twelve. The flood is not due to the blockage of drainages, it is just a natural phenomenon.”

The Coordinator urged those living in flood prone areas to plan ahead towards a permanent solution to avoid the huge loss and discomfort attached to the phenomenon.

She emphasized that the present administration attached so much to lives and would not allow any citizen to fall a victim of flood.

She appealed to corporate organization and Kogians to assist their brothers who has been displaced by the flood noting that cash donation should also be accompanied with consumables items such as food, drugs, mosquito nets and others materials to make life a little comfortable at the designated centres for the displaced.
