GANI FAWEHINMI IMPACT AND INTEGRITY AWARDS 2018THE SEARCH FOR MR/MRS INTEGRITY BEGINS

Where are the honest Nigerians? where is Mr./Mrs. Integrity? the
search for who wears the crown starts now as Human and Environmental
Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) initiates a process geared
towards promoting the virtues of integrity and transparent work ethics
for deserving citizens.

Over the years, Nigeria has been rated high in many of the corruption
index. This to a greater extent is symptomatic of a deep rooted and
enervating corruption in almost every sphere of life. This is better
imagined where a closer look or searchlight is beamed on what is
supposed to be the day-to-day activities from the offices, public or
private, especially in government circles, where figures are altered
and changed.

Undoubtedly this ugly trend operates under different euphemism such as
embezzlement, misappropriation, forgery, scams, laundering, extortion,
bribery and high-level corruption so much that Nigeria may be said to
have earned for itself especially among international community the
unenviable tag of “The Nigerian Prince” which appears to assume
wrongly that all Nigerians are in the mold described by the authors of
the so-called Nigerian Prince.
The questions to ask therefore; are all Nigerians fraudulent? Is it
right for anyone to assume that the biggest black nation is in the
bereft of men of proven integrity? are we all thieves? Are we all
rogues? Are we all extortionists? Are we all fraudulent? Are we all
agents of kick-backs?
The answer to these questions is NO. Just as there are good Nigerians,
there are also bad Nigerians, suffice to say there are honest,
credible, transparent, incorruptible Nigerians.
To boot, over time Nigeria and Nigerians have developed the habit of
publicly naming and shaming individuals found guilty of corruption in
all works of life which have birthed the establishment of various
Anti-corruption agencies as corruption has become an endemic syndrome
in the Nigerian system.

It goes without saying, “If we advocate punishment as deterrent for
those found culpable in corrupt practices, we must also celebrate
those citizens whom, despite the temptations, the pressures and the
forces of necessity still maintain dignity of an incorruptible living
Hence, if we punish dishonesty, we must recognize and celebrate
honesty. We should deem it pertinent to also commend those who resist
the temptation with a view to encouraging selflessness, integrity,
probity, transparency and accountability” this is the philosophy
behind the Gani Fawehinmi Impact and Integrity Awards.

To this end, HEDA presents the Gani Fawehinmi award of Integrity
(#GFIIA) which is aimed at celebrating deserving citizens working in
all spheres of the economy. From public office holders to civil
servants and private business owners to unemployed citizens whom have
over time demonstrated high standards of transparency and integrity in
