JAF Supports NLC Mass Action Over N30.000 Wage

The Joint Action Front [JAF]declares its support for the nationwide mass mobilisation and mass protests being organised by organised Labour January 8, 2019 in furtherance of the struggle for the actualisation of the of N30,000 as the new Minimum Wage, which was agreed and endorsed by all parties in the Minimum Wage Tripartite Committee.
2.    JAF hereby urges its affiliates, allies and other pro-Labour civil society organisations to mobilise their members across the country to join forces with organised Labour in their respective locations on January 8 to sensitise Nigerians on the imperative necessity of a general strike to enforce the N30,000 Minimum Wage against the anti-poor stand of Governors, employers and the deceptive Buhari government.
3.    JAF recalls and reaffirmed its previous declaration of support for thegeneral strike of November 6, 2018that was suspended on its eve by organised Labour, where it stated that:
3.1         “the current demand for a new National Minimum Wage has gone beyond the stage of negotiation, hence the N30,000 agreed at the Tripartite Committee, which is even very poor [@ US$83 per month compared to 1981 Minimum Wage of N125 @ US$250), represents an irreducible minimum and therefore, IT IS NOT NEGOTIABLE”, and
3.2         “Immediate enactment into law of the N30,000 New Minimum Wage”.
4.    JAF takes serious note of the deceptive and manipulative acts of the presidency, minister of labour and the forum of state governors since the presentation of the Tripartite Committee Report to the Presidency in November 2018, to undermine the actualisation of the N30,000 Minimum Wage, and therefore call on organised Labour, to without further hesitation, give a date for the commencement ofthe indefinite general strike, in order to compel the actualisation of the New Minimum Wage of N30,000.
