NEWS ANALYSIS: The Duplication Of Igbos Political Prowess In Lagos By Wale Abydeen
The results of the just concluded Presidential elections from Lagos depicts that the Igbos are a very unique political animals. Undoubtedly, Igbos supports former president Abubakar Atiku of the PDP with all sincerity.
That Atiku won majorly in the South East states is Buttressed by the votes the PDP secured from certain segment of Lagos. While Buhari won in 15 Local Government Areas of Lagos, Atiku won in five councils, heavily populated by South East residents.
The Igbos almost dealt a blow to the APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos and it appears the APC in Lagos needs more concerted efforts to remain in power
Muhammadu Buhari has won the Presidential election in Lagos State, by defeating his rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with a 132,798 vote margin.
However, the margin was lower than the 160,143 votes with which Buhari defeated Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 in the election as he polled 792,460 votes, while Jonathan got 632,327.
The results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Yaba area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Monday afternoon, Buhari polled 580,814 votes to beat Atiku, who got 448,016 votes.
