Save Lagos Group Accuses Police Of Contempt Of court
A civil group, Save Lagos Group (SLG) has raised an alarm over plan by
the Police officers; Corporal Mariam and Inspector Sebastine of
Monitoring Unit with Phone number:-08036696064 to kidnap Lagos Chief,
High Chief Habeeb Lawal the Baale of Ikola Town in Lagos State and
other few members of the community over land matter that was before
Court, calling for the urgent intervention of the Police authorities
in the country to save the lives of innocent and law abiding citizens
of the country.
Sebastine who is an Inspector of Police attached to the Monitoring and
Anti-Kidnapping Units of the Zone 2 of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF),
Onikan, Lagos and his Aide-in-crime, Corporal Mariam of the same unit
in the zone have been on this illegal duty for a while now and they
have been reported to the appropriate qaurters.
The said Police officer (Sebastine) stormed the Palace of Chief Lawal
at the early hour of today(Tuesday) in Ikola Town in Ipaja area of
Lagos State without the knowledge of the Officer-in-Charge the Zonal
Monitoring Unit,Supol Tijani Taofeeq,a Superintendent of Police(SP)
with Phone Number:- 08033846899, in an attempt to kidnap the Lagos
Chief in order to prevent him from attending the ongoing investigation
of the Office of Inspector General of Police and Chairman, Police
Service Commission (PSC) on the unprofessional conduct of the
Sebastine and Mariam.
According to the statement issued by the Media office of the
group(SLG) and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, alleging that the
where about of the Chief could not be ascertained as at the time of
issuing this media statement.
The statement noted that the erring Police officers did not meet
Chief Habeeb Lawal at home where he threatened his house hold of
kidnapping them so as to ensure prompt illegal and unlawful arrest of
the Lagos Chief.
Others threatened by Sebastine are;Alhaji Adesina Suara, the Baale’s
Secretary,Mr Adebayo Olusoji Thomas,Baale’s Mother,Wives,Children and
his driver,Mr. Oyekunle(Baba Soqiq).
It will be recalled that the civil rights group(SLG) has dragged the
erring Police officers before the Police authorities in the land,
including; the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chairman, Police
Service Commission (PSC), Minister of Interior and host of others, by
urging them to caution the said erring Police officers against the
contempt of the Court of competent jurisdiction.
The group insisted that the call became necessary because of the way
and manner the Police officers dabbled into the disputed land matters
which have been before the Court of competent jurisdiction to
adjudicate upon, alleging the Police officers of abuse of office,
insubordination, extortion, corrupt practices, threat to life of law
abiding Nigerians and violation of fundamental human rights of High
Chief Lawal, the Baale Ikola Town.
The group maintained that Sebastine and Mariam were wrongly and
illegally dabble into the disputed Land matter with a suit
No:-.TEMP/42905/2019 handling by Barrister Olarewaju Akinbo with phone
number:-08162679719.
“However, it is quite unfortunate and highly embarrassing by the ugly
nonchalant conduct of these aforementioned Police officers who always
working against the law of the land by ignoring the procedures of the
legitimate Court over a matter because of what to eat and collect to
their pocket.
It quoted its earlier Petition Letter to the Police authority in Abuja
that :”It is pertinent to state categorically that we have not
petitioned your good office for petitioning sake but to register our
great displeasure over the outburst of buffoonery of these officers
but mainly to call for a radical trail and prosecution of the erring
officers in order to serve as deterrent to others”, the group
submitted.
It therefore reinstated the group earlier threat to mobilize the good
people of the community for peaceful demonstration to picket the Zone
II Command of the Nigeria Police Force if the necessary action is not
taken by the appropriate and concern authority to checkmate the
illegal conduct of the aforementioned officers.
