Corps Member Organises Seminar For Teachers In Kogi
By David Fidelis//LOKOJA//In order to encourage teachers for more quality servicce delivery, a member of the National Youth Service Corps in Kogi State, Attah Blessing Edidiong with State code number KG / 18B / 3239
has organized a seminar and Public Lecture for School Teachers in Lokoja Local Government Area of the State.
The training which was held on Saturday 20th July, 2019 at Children’s Amusement Park, Lokoja was part of the Personal Community Development Service of the Corps Member and was meant to equipped teachers on how to teach pupils/students efficiently and showcase her welfarism to humanity.
Speaking in at the event, Attah Blessing said the personal Community Development Service project, tagged: Seminar/Training for Teachers and Welfarism for Humanity is aimed at transforming and equipping school teachers on the technicalities in teaching pupils and students, stressing that it is targeted towards birthing excellence in school pupils and student as a result of being properly taught and trained by their teachers.
Blessing who is a graduate of University of Port Harcourt said the Seminar will introduce a new dynamic approach to learning thereby making learning experience fun and instilling in pupils and students the culture of diligence and self relianceand allow students / pupils to successfully transit into an intellectually equipped entity, noting that it will help teachers to guide the students pursue and adhere the aspiration and dream in life.
According to Blessing, teachers seems to be the most neglected set of people in Nigeria but that should not deter them to giving their best to their students pointing that no teacher goes unrewarded.
Blessing thanked the sponsors of the project including Prof. Otokmefa of the Department of Microbiology, University of Port-Harcourt, whom she described a great personality and mentor; The Proprietress of Koggie Academy, Mrs Mary Egeuda among other supporters.
Delivering her Lecture, on the theme: Indispensable Teacher and how a Teacher can Guide a Child in Discovering his Purpose/ Destiny, the guest lecturer of the event, Mrs Mary Egueda said every child has a potential and students are like flowers, they need to be watered day by day, stressing that an effective teacher must be able to guide a child in discovering his or her purpose.
Mrs Mary explained that a good teacher must have objectives, sense of purpose, sense of humor, praise the students appropriately, maintain cordial communication with their parents and give the students emotional support. She added that teachers expected to know when to listen to students and when to ignore them, teach their students holistically devoid of favoritism and always thrive to learn everyday as the revolves.
She advised teachers to always help the students discover their potentials, motivate them, give them inspiration and guidance as this will ultimately lead to their success in life.
Other topics discussed at the seminar include, Helping a Child to Choose a Career; How to Help a Child that Learn Slowly among others.
Some of the teachers who took part in the seminar said the opportunity has unequivocally improve their horizon and will spur them to efficiently and effectively impact good ideas on their students.
Aside teachers and corps members, dignitaries at the event include the NYSC Zonal Inspector, Lokoja, Etsu Muazu Idris; Mrs Momson Abimbola of the CDS Branch, Mr. Muhammed Yakubu and Mr Umar Ayuba.
