FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, as the preferred partner to the Federal Government on dairy, leads the local sourcing of milk through its Dairy Development Programme (DDP).
The company commenced its DDP with the first collection of raw milk from Kwara State in 2010, followed by an MoU with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Over the last 9 years, FCW has expanded its DDP to locations in Oyo, Osun, Ogun and Niger States.
The DDP has achieved the following milestones:
- Supported over 7000 farmers.
- Empowered 950 women.
- Commissioned Milk Bulking Centre.
- Built 25 Milk Collection Centres.
- Set up Solar borewells.
- Developed artificial insemination scheme which has yielded over 130 crossbred calves with ongoing progress.
- Developed model demonstration farms, amongst others.
FCW has established a sustainable DDP model for dairy farming in Nigeria, thereby making it attractive for others to participate.
