In a groundbreaking move, the People’s Party (PP) and the Malawi Forum for Unity and Development (MAFUNDE) have formed a historic political alliance, marking the first of its kind in the lead-up to the 2025 general elections.

The alliance was announced during a joint press briefing held in Blantyre, where PP Secretary General Ben Chakhame confirmed the development.

This strategic partnership comes as Malawi prepares for the 2025 polls, with parties seeking to form alliances to meet the 50+1 election winner requirement.

Chakhame ssid that the two parties decided to form an alliance due to their shared ideologies, visions, and goals.

“Our partnership aims to bring together the strengths of both parties, creating a formidable force in Malawian politics,” he said.

He said that PP and MAFUNDE will soon meet to discuss the way forward and conclude formalities ahead of the 2025 elections.

“Our alliance plans to elect a torchbearer who will align themselves with the ideologies of both parties.”

Additionally, the parties will field a single Member of Parliament candidate in each constituency, ensuring a united front.

This historic alliance marks a significant shift in Malawi’s political landscape. As parties prepare for the 2025 elections, the PP-MAFUNDE alliance is poised to make a meaningful impact. With their shared vision and combined strengths, this partnership is likely to be a game-changer in Malawian politics.
