Data Tariff Hike: Group Warns F.G to prepare for ‘War’
A pan Yoruba youths organization, the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA), has warned federal government not to increase data tariff in the country. In a statement signed by it President, Habib Olalekan Hammed and which was made available to SECURITY MONITOR, the association stress that it will never support any wicked and anti masses government policy or action which is capable of increasing stress, depression and psychological trauma among Nigerians.
“There is no doubt that Nigerians are suffering due to economic recession emanated from reduction in the price of crude oil, pipeline vandalism, devaluation of naira and corruption, which had led to a run away inflation and unpaid salaries. Government not even helping the situation by implementing unfavourable policies such as increase in electricity tariff, petroleum pump price, banning of exportation of cereals, banning of importation of some products that are not readily available in the country and others. The rate by which people are getting frustrated and committing suicide in Nigeria is alarming. Social media remains the major source of relaxation, firmness through which Nigerians develop courage to keep themselves alive and joyful. An attempt to hike data tariff is tantamount to shorten lifespan of an average Nigerian who is a poor man, jobless and frustrated”
YYSA hereby warns government not to increase data tariff for any reason, noting that if its happened we “would join other civil society organizations and protest to show our displeasure about the decision”.
