SENATOR LALONG MEETS UK FCDO GOVERNANCE ADVISER; RESTATES COMMITTMENT TO ELECTORAL ACT AMENDMENT

Chairman Senate Committee on Electoral Matters and Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District Simon Bako Lalong on Tuesday 8th July 2025 hosted Matthew Oyibakuro, Governance Adviser, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) at the British High Commission Nigeria in his office at the National Assembly Abuja.

 

Statement made by Dr. Makut Simon Macham,

Special Adviser on Media to Senator Simon Bako Lalong added that Oyibakuro who was in company of Clement Nwankwo, Executive Director Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) said he was at the Senator’s office to congratulate him on his appointment as Chairman of the Committee and assure him that the FCDO remains committed to supporting Nigeria improve on its electoral process.

 

He expressed hope that this will be the last of the electoral amendments, at least for the meantime, since Nigeria has carried out several in recent years.

 

The FCDO Adviser expressed hope that the National Assembly will complete the electoral amendments on time so that it will get Presidential assent for early implementation ahead of the next general elections.

 

He said such collaboration helps to improve the confidence of Nigerians on the electoral system and encourage them to participate actively.
