ANAMBRA GUBER: IGP EGBETOKUN VOWS POLICE NEUTRALITY, AFFIRMS PROFESSIONALISM
By Morris Nor// As the people of Anambra State prepare for Saturday’s governorship election, the Nigeria Police Force has deployed over personnel across the state in one of its largest security mobilizations for recent elections, as the Inspector-General, IGP Kayode Egbetokun declaring the operation a defense of the sanctity of democracy.
In his address at the pre-election stakeholders’ engagement in Awka on Saturday, IGP Egbetokun positioned the security operation as proof that policing in Nigeria has evolved from the force of the past to the service of today: intelligent, impartial, disciplined, and deeply professional.
“The Nigeria Police Force will be neutral but not negligent. We will be fair but not fragile. We will be civil but never cowardly,” IGP Egbetokun declared before political leaders, traditional rulers, and election officials.
IGP Egbetokun urged all segments of the society involved in the electoral process, especially political actors to exercise restraint and responsibility as he reminded them that power acquired through violence carries the seed of its own destruction.
The police chief called on traditional, religious, and community leaders to serve as the moral compass of society, using their influence to calm the polity, guide the youth, and remind every supporter that no ambition is worth a single Nigerian life.
The IGP assured Anambra residents of their safety and freedom to participate in the democratic process. “Go out and vote. Vote your conscience. Vote without fear. The Nigeria Police Force stands as your shield, not your shadow,” he stated.
With polling units expected to open by 8:00 AM on Saturday, 8th November, 2025, voters across Anambra’s 21 local government areas will decide what political direction the state takes for the next four years. INEC officials have been deployed alongside security personnel to ensure smooth conduct of the electoral process.
The police have established a comprehensive command and control structure to monitor security developments across the state, with the IGP emphasizing that every polling unit has been mapped and every flashpoint has been identified her operational plan.
