Police arrest man for allegedly killing wife over infidelity claims in Lilongwe.

Mpingu Police in Lilongwe have arrested 28-year-old Chifundo Mateyo on suspicion that he murdered his wife while she was asleep.
According to Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, the incident happened at around 11 p.m. on Monday, December 8, in Phwetekele, under Traditional Authority M’bwatalika.
Chigalu explained that Mateyo had long suspected that his wife, 28-year-old Stella Kaunda (now deceased) was involved in an extramarital affair.
“On the day of the incident, Mateyo reportedly went out drinking and returned home around 10 p.m., finding his wife already asleep,” he said.
Chigalu said that upon seeing her in deep sleep, Mateyo took advantage of the moment and stepped outside to fetch a hoe handle.
“He then allegedly used the hoe handle to strike his wife on the head multiple times, leaving her unconscious.
“One of their three children, who witnessed the incident, ran to inform their uncle about what had happened.
“Community members rushed to the scene after receiving the report and quickly transported the woman to the hospital,” he added.
Medical personnel at the hospital informed them that she had died due to excessive bleeding from the assault.
