The Lagos State Government has sealed a branch of Access Bank in Victoria Island over alleged environmental violations.
The affected branch, located on Land Bridge Avenue, Oniru, in Victoria Island was shut following investigations which revealed the discharge of untreated waste into public drainage systems.

According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the enforcement action was carried out after a whistleblower report prompted an inspection of the facility.

Authorities discovered that the bank’s wastewater treatment system was not functioning, leading to the release of raw sewage that caused environmental pollution and foul odour in the area.

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office subsequently sealed the premises during a joint enforcement operation, with officials stating that the facility will face legal sanctions in line with environmental laws.

The development is part of the state government’s ongoing crackdown on environmental infractions and public health risks across Lagos.
