POLICE BRUTALITY: CACOBAG DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR OGIDI MENA IN DELTA
Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance CACOBAG strongly condemn the heinous killing of Ogidi Mena, a suspect, by Police Officer ASP Usman Nuhu, attached to Effurun Police Station, Delta State. A statement which was made available to SECURITY MONITOR, signed by Toyin Raheem, Chairman of CACOBAG has said.
On April 28, 2026, Officer Nuhu brutally killed Ogidi Mena, who was handcuffed and posed no threat, in clear disregard for human life and the rule of law.
Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution guarantees the right to life, and it is a fundamental principle that a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Officer Nuhu’s actions are a gross violation of Ogidi Mena’s human rights and a travesty of justice.
Our Demands :
1.ASP Usman Nuhu’s immediate prosecution and public trial.
2.Accountability for all officers involved, including those who failed to intervene
3.Police to ensure justice is served, including consideration of capital punishment for Officer Nuhu if found guilty of unlawful killing
CACOBAG commends the police for arresting Officer Nuhu and calls for swift action. The principle of “Nemo est supra legem” .No one is above the law must guide the actions against trigger happy Usman Nuhu.
In line with the case of Nigeria v. Sergeant Akpo (2018), where the Supreme Court held that a police officer who kills a suspect without justification is guilty of murder, we demand justice for Ogidi Mena.
