By Olayiwiola Ibrahim // Lagos // The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in close collaboration with Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, carried out a swift rescue and recovery operation following a fatal lone vehicular crash that occurred in the early hours of today along the busy Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, at Charity Bus Stop, inward Iyana-Isolo, Lagos.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Honda Pilot Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) involved in the incident lost control and overturned multiple times before coming to a stop.

The force of the impact resulted in the instant death of the driver, whose body was trapped in the wreckage.

LASTMA officers, who were on traffic monitoring and management duties around the Iyana-Isolo axis at the time, responded immediately.

Working alongside personnel from Mosafejo Police Division, they displayed professionalism and operational efficiency by carefully extricating the deceased from the mangled vehicle while managing traffic to prevent secondary accidents.

After the recovery operation, officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) evacuated the remains of the deceased to a public mortuary in line with public health regulations.

The wrecked Honda Pilot SUV has since been handed over to Officers of the Mosafejo Police Division, who have commenced a full investigation to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the crash.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

He also urged all motorists in Lagos to be vigilant and responsible while driving, to obey speed limits, and to strictly adhere to traffic rules and safety guidelines especially during late-night and early morning trips when visibility and alertness are reduced.

According to Bakare-Oki, Motorists are strongly advised to avoid reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, speeding, and any traffic violation that can lead to preventable tragedies on our roads.

The value of human life must remain a priority for every road user. No journey is so urgent that it should compromise safety.
