FOUR NOTORIOUS CULT SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN EGBEDA, FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION RECOVERED
By olayiwiola Ibrahim // Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have recorded another major breakthrough with the arrest of four suspected notorious cultists linked to cult-related violence and other criminal activities in Alimosho and surrounding areas.
The suspects are: Nurudeen Ganiu, male, 34, Oluwaleke Fagbula, male, 38, Emmanuel Silas, male, 41, and Nurudeen Abdullahi, male, 41.
They were arrested following credible intelligence on a suspected cult initiation ceremony taking place at midnight in Egbeda, Lagos State.
Acting on the tip-off, operatives of the Command moved in swiftly and carried out a covert operation that led to the arrest of the four suspects at the scene.
Items recovered during the operation include: one locally made cut-to-size pistol, one English Beretta pistol loaded with ten live cartridges, and one jack knife.
Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects is a notorious cult gang leader and a rusticated student of a university in Ogun State. He was allegedly expelled in 2022 for cult-related activities.
Further findings showed that the gang has been involved in thuggery and has been terrorizing residents of Egbeda and environs for some time.
The suspects have reportedly confessed to being active members of the Eiye Confraternity, a notorious secret cult group.
They operate by using motorcycles to launch attacks on unsuspecting members of the public and to disrupt gatherings at gunpoint.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, has commended the operatives for their professionalism and prompt response, which ensured the success of the operation.
He reassures Lagos residents that the Command remains committed to stamping out cultism and all forms of violent crime across the state.
The CP also urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with timely and credible information through the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
