Documents Presented By Adeniyi Adeyemi Are Fake’, Presidency Insists
Press Statement by Tope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Information & Public Affairs_
The Presidency has noted with concern the circulation of fake appointment letters purportedly issued from the Office of the Chief of Staff.
According to the police investigation report, it has been clearly established that both the signature of the Chief of Staff and the State House letterhead used in those documents were forged.
A key giveaway is the inclusion of phone numbers on the fake letterheads. Official State House letterheads do not carry phone numbers. Those used by the forgers did.
More importantly, it is a matter of due process that the Chief of Staff does not issue appointment letters. His role is to convey Mr. President’s approval to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, who is constitutionally empowered to issue such letters. Therefore, any claim that an appointment letter was issued directly by the Chief of Staff should be treated as the first red flag.
In fact, Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, was the first to raise the alarm. He petitioned both the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Inspector-General of Police to investigate individuals impersonating his office and circulating forged documents.
The administration remains committed to upholding the integrity of government processes and will ensure that those behind this criminal impersonation are brought to book.
