A major breakthrough has been recorded in Delta State’s fight against kidnapping after security operatives captured one of the state’s most wanted kidnap suspects, Abubakar Usman, following a fierce gun battle in a forest hideout.

The operation was launched after Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, who was abducted on July 2, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku, was reported kidnapped. Her abductors allegedly demanded ₦100 million from her family for her release.

Acting on intelligence, the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, supported by the Hydra Tech Surveillance System, carried out a coordinated rescue operation and successfully rescued Mrs. Chiedu alive and unharmed along the Ubulu-Unor–Ashama Road.

Security operatives immediately began tracking the fleeing suspects. At about 6:45 a.m., surveillance technology led the team to the gang’s hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest, where a gun battle broke out.

The operatives overpowered the criminals and arrested Abubakar Usman, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped deeper into the forest with their firearms.

According to investigators, Usman and his gang are believed to be responsible for several kidnapping operations across Igbodo, Umunede, and neighboring communities, where they allegedly extorted millions of naira in ransom from innocent families.

Authorities commended the combined efforts of the Delta State Police Command, local security groups, and community leaders involved in the operation, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring that criminals have no safe haven and that residents can live without fear.
