Senator Salihu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) few days ago in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Mustapha is reportedly set to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he is expected to secure the party’s senatorial ticket.
The senator is a member of the G-15, a group of aggrieved APC members dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s primaries in Kwara South.
His defection could set up a major contest with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the APC’s senatorial candidate for Kwara South.
The impact of Mustapha’s defection on the APC’s political fortunes in Kwara State remains to be seen.
