The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) has lambasted the Governor Ademola Adeleke government’s desperation to implicate the APC and heat up the polity with the fake kidnap of one of the special assistants to the governor, Shakiru Babatunde, warning that the Nigeria Police Force should resist the attempt of the state government to bury the case.

According to sources, Babatunde’s arrest had been announced by other officials of the state government through their individual social media handles, demonizing and shifting the blame on the opposition APC as being responsible for the imaginary and false kidnap.

However, luck ran against Babatunde and his accomplices in the staged kidnapping saga when he was apprehended in his hideout by the officers of the Nigeria Police attached to Dugbe Divisional Police in Osogbo and was taken to custody where he confessed to the crime.

Since the arrest, the officials of the state government have made frantic efforts to bury the case to forestall public backlash that the development may attract.

It was learnt that the intention of the kidnap conspirators was to demonize the Osun State APC and incite the public against them as well and criminalise the Federal Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a failed administration under whose nose criminality has festered.

The obnoxious intention is to undermine the chances of President Tinubu to earn a re-election in January 2027.

It is a criminal offence for anyone to fake his or her kidnapping. The offender upon conviction is liable to 10-20 years imprisonment.

It is unfortunate that this is a grave offence some officials of the state government in collusion with pliable security agents want to sweep under the carpet.

We are appealing to the state Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim D. Zungura, to pay a particular attention to this case to serve as a deterrent to future criminal act.
