BREAKING: GAMBIA ORDERS BANKS TO REPLACE NON -GAMBIA STAFF WITH LOCALS BY DECEMBER 31ST
By Olayiwola Ibrahim // The Central Bank of The Gambia has directed all commercial banks operating in the country to begin phasing out affected non-Gambian employees and replace them with suitably qualified Gambian nationals by December 31, 2026.
The directive affects banks including Nigerian-owned or Nigerian-linked lenders such as Access Bank, GTBank, FirstBank, Ecobank and Zenith Bank.
The Central Bank said its industry-wide review found a relatively high number of non-Gambian employees working in banks beyond those formally recognised under approved expatriate arrangements.
The regulator said the practice was inconsistent with The Gambia’s Labour Act 2023 and banking-sector guidelines on expatriate employment.
