The FCT Police Command, on the 4th of October, 2026, at approximately 10:30PM, received a distress call reporting the discovery of an abandoned baby in a nearby bush in Jabi area of the FCT.

Responding to the report, police operatives from Jabi Division were promptly deployed to the scene, where the lifeless body of a male infant was recovered with deep wounds on the throat and abdomen. The infant was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical team on duty.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD., FCAI, ordered a manhunt for the suspect responsible for the act. With the assistance of members of the immediate community, one Ms Precious Yohanna, 27 years old, a native of Riyam in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State and resident of Daki-Biu/Jabi area of the FCT, was traced and arrested in connection with the crime.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect, who is the mother of the deceased infant, gave birth to the baby inside her room on the 3rd of October, 2026, at about 4:00 PM, after which she used a razor blade to inflict the fatal injuries on the newborn. The suspect freely stated that she carried out the act out of hatred for the baby’s father.
