Students, Staff Grumble as FedPoly Oko Medical Centre is renamed after the Rector

By Sam Joseph; On Monday, 25th of April 2017, students and staff of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra state were shocked coming into their campus to notice that the Polytechnics Medical Centre has been renamed after the embattled Rector, Prof. Godwin Onu who is currently under financial fraud probe by the Independent Corrupt Practice Commission, ICPC.
SECURITY MONITOR gathers that students and staff of the polytechnic were seen gathering in numbers in front of the Medical Centre wandering and discussing with each other over the sudden change of the Polytechnic property to Prof. Godwin Onu Medical Centre, a development many described as “another fraudulent act” perpetuated by the Onu’s led management in the polytechnic.
“I was on the campus last Friday and this name has not been changed. So, I wonder the sudden change” said a female student who was standing with surprises in front of an erected signboard with ‘Prof. Godwin Onu Medical Centre. bodly printed on it.  Another student who named himself as Chibuike confirms to SECURITY MONITOR that the change of name was effected on Sunday evening as he was on the campus to study on that Sunday. Chibuike further said that the “Rector knew students will unleash terror on him should he effected the change during the week while students were in the school campus.”

Investigations by SECURITY MONITOR reveals that the building which was concluded early last year had a signage which recognized Innoson Motors as a big player for the construction of the project. Findings reveal that Innocent  Chukwuma, an industrialist and the Chief Executive Officer, C.E.O of Innoson Motors who is also an indigene of Anambra state single handedly bankrolled the project by  donating the exact sum of 20million naira to erect the building.
A staff and member of Academic Union Federal Polytechnic Oko chapter told the medium that the “Rector personally ordered the change of name and my concern is that one day the entire polytechnic will be named after a Rector Godwin Onu who sees himself as untouchable lord over others”. The source further stated that “90% of the staff of the polytechnic were having crises with Onu’s administrative style. The situation that has led to many litigations between the Academic Union and the management”.
However, Obinni Onuchukwu, the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Polytechnic told SECURITY MONITOR that the decision to name the Polytechnic Medical Centre after the Rector was taking by the Polytechnic Management who recognizes the enormous achievements of the Rector. In a telephone conversation with SECURITY MONITOR, Onuchukwu maintained that “prof. Godwin Onu initiated and constructed many buildings and the latest of them is the medical centre which was renamed after him to appreciate his huge contributions to the development of the Federal Polytechnic Oko”
